Narrative
Painted in a single sitting in front of the botanical greenhouse, easel planted in the grass and the tubes of paint arranged on the ground. Emma was drawn to the way the iron ribs of the glasshouse dissolve into their own reflected light — the whole structure behaving less like a building than like a lantern. The dark cypress on the left anchors the composition; the yellow bush in the foreground was the last mark, laid in fast before the sun moved.
